Come Back to the Present Moment Before These Thought Patterns Kill Your Creativity

It doesn’t take much to smash creativity to bits, but I found that with a little effort and willingness to let go, we can revive it from its flatlined state.

But before that, I want to explain four major ways creativity gets blocked. I found these in myself and who knows, you might do this too.

Creativity killers

1. Judgment

When I feel judgmental about my projects before I’ve even started them, I’m putting walls around my creativity. I’m telling myself I can only create within the confines of these boundaries because this is the “right” way.

But with boundaries like these, creativity wilts before it blooms. Plus, it makes me feel claustrophobic. As my judgment grows stricter, so do these walls close in. Then it’s just a matter of time until the walls get too close and there goes my creativity, squashed into oblivion.

2. Comparison

There are so many outstanding pieces of writing on Medium that I can’t help but compare sometimes. I line my work up against someone else’s and see all the ways…
