Feeling Inner Peace When Dealing With A Difficult Person

It is challenging to keep our inner peace during a confrontation. When I have to do this, sometimes it works out well, and other times I say or do something I regret later on.

Mindfulness helps keep me grounded during these times. I know most of us associate mindfulness with just trying to be aware of thoughts and feelings, and though that’s important, there is so much more to it.

Here are the three major things that mindfulness gives me during times of conflict with others.

1. Control

Mindfulness will put you back into the driver’s seat of your reactions.

By becoming self-aware in tense moments, you create a brief but noticeable separation between irritation and your reaction to it.

In this space is the opportunity to choose a response that won’t escalate things or lead to any future regrets.

I’ve found that making the most peaceful choice in these situations comes at the cost of my ego. Despite any desire to lash out, when I let go, what followed was inner peace.
