I agree that notifications about mutual highlights should be something you can choose to receive or not. I do tend to ignore these notifications, but sometimes I click on the profile of a person I don't recognize that highlighted what I did, because it gives me a sense that the person could be into similar writing and I could potentially make a connection with them. So it's useful in that way I suppose. But there sure are a lot of those notifications.
