I went through nearly the same situation when I joined Medium.
A year before I joined this site, I rekindled my love for writing and enjoyed a year of aimless express in notebooks. It was lovely.
Then I joined Medium, got caught in the race, hated writing, dropped the expectation, fell back in love with writing, and now I do it for the enjoyment. And if it brings something back to me, then that's great. It took me about a year to figure that out though.
I think a lot of people drop at the initial feeling of failing on this site. It can be tough if you are expecting superstar status right away.
Thanks for this piece. It's so useful for those caught in the web.
