Killer advice! Thanks a lot for this article. I've recently started writing on Medium and I've gotten feedback from people that know me and they said some of the same things you told your friend.

Apparently I've spent too much time in the IT field writing technically and with so much official language that I lost my voice a bit. But reading some of my stuff out loud to myself really highlighted how much I didn't sound like me, which has set me on the path of finding my voice in writing.
