Using Kindness To Strengthen Your Awareness of the Present Moment
Kindness is a simple, gentle thing, and it has an incredible effect on mindfulness.
Mindfulness means many things to many people. We can see it as the ability to arrive at the present moment by focusing on one thing. Here, that one thing is kindness.
This singular focus will help you to arrive in the present moment where understanding and healing are possible.
Putting this into practice
For example, imagine an argument with a friend. The tension is building as you speak over each other. This causes you and your friend’s voices to raise into a screaming match. Both of you are angry because neither of you are listening.
In this scenario, mindfulness is absent, and the argument continues.
Let’s see how this scenario changes when kindness is involved?
Instead of competing for talking room, you decide to stop and accept the role of “listener.” You listen deeply, intending to understand your friend’s suffering. Let go of any wrong perceptions you might hear. Understanding why this person feels the way they do is the key priority.
