Mixing Mindfulness Into Your Social Media Use

Having an enlightening, energizing and useful experience with social media is possible. It just takes a little effort and awareness.

Like how a hammer isn’t dangerous unless we mindlessly swing it around, the same goes for social media — the experience we have depends on how we choose to use it.

The agonies of social media are well known by now. From unwanted ads and opinions meant solely to stir the pot, to the pressure and judgement felt by seeing someone’s “perfect” life on display, it would seem the pains are plentiful.

There is also the dopamine hit that a long scroll session brings. Videos and memes piling onto one another until the hours whipped by, leaving us feeling a bit dazed and drained.

I know I’ve mindlessly scrolled hours away to cope with stress, only to snap out of it later, feeling worse than I did when I started.

It’s addictive and can hypnotize, and we all have our reasons that we step right into the trap. But this article is less about exposing the negative experience, and more about revealing how to have a positive experience with it all.

For as bad as it can be to the human psyche, it can be just as enlightening and helpful.
