The Advice I’d Give to Myself if I Was Just Starting Out on Medium

It’d be great to talk to the younger version of me that just started writing on Medium because then I could say these few things to slap some sense into myself… lovingly, of course.

Get used to feeling uncomfortable

Writing about my personal views on things and sharing them on the internet felt like inviting a bunch of strangers to ridicule me into oblivion.

Nothing made me want to recede back into my shell more than being honest about my perspectives to people I don’t know. It’s very uncomfortable, especially in the beginning, but it’s worth it.

Putting yourself out there isn’t always the warmest of feelings. But being vulnerable is the only way to move forward because it means you are growing.

Also, it’s so rewarding when someone resonates with what you are writing and finds it useful.

Knowing you are growing and helping people like this makes the uncomfortable feelings in the beginning worth it.
