The Best Way to Get Out of Your Own Way
Most obstacles we face throughout life are self-imposed. It’s our worries, judgements, fears, and resistance that turn a pebble into a monstrous mountain to overcome.
I do this to myself when I overthink. I turn minor issues into something worse, or I create hardships out of thin air, like I’m some sort of magician with a grudge against myself.
What this boils down to is inaction.
I sit around all day, replaying the reasons I can’t move forward because I’m bogged down by my stories in my head. This wastes time and keeps me stuck.
To take the next step into something we want or have to do, we’ve got to skip the stories and get right to the action. Acceptance is great for that.
Wall of resistance
The most effective way I’ve found to stop myself dead in my tracks is by putting up a wall of resistance between where I am and where I want to be.
This can feel protective at first, but it’s just me holding myself back. I do this because of fear or some judgmental story I’m holding onto.
Judgments are the bricks that build the wall of resistance.
If we switch over and accept whatever we are resisting, then the wall falls.
