Because overthinking is the best way to waste it

We only have so much energy in a day. Unfortunately, for most of us, a bulk of it gets wasted on overthinking.

It’s like we’re pots of water sitting on a burner.

  • Pot = You
  • Water = Energy
  • Burner = State of mind

Rumination cranks up the heat

All this stress, worry and anxiety generated by the mind brings the water to a boil. Since there is a limited amount of water in each of our pots, we can’t just let it sit like that all day — but we often do.

As we continue to overthink, the burner remains on the highest setting and the water quickly boils away.

When the water is gone, we’ve arrived at a burnout.

Bad things happen if the mind insists on ruminating past this point. Just like leaving an empty pot on a flame can damage it, overthinking for too long is harmful.

When it’s too much

Staying at a high level of stress long after your energy is sapped can make you sick or prolong an illness by slowing recovery.
