Why Being Resistant Causes Heaviness on the Spirit
To feel lighter during challenging times, we need to swap resistance with acceptance.
Acceptance is the open acknowledgement of things as they are.
In this way, accepting does not mean supporting. It means allowing yourself to see all sides of a situation and gain understanding. This is important because it’s clarity that enables healthier responses to life, not judgement.
Resistance is the refusal of something as it is, either partially or wholly. It is the wall we try to build between ourselves and reality. When we are resistant to something, we only allow into our space what aligns with our desires.
What comes bottled up in resistance is stress, judgement, rigidness, and a lack of understanding.
What happens to us when we resist
Holding resistance for too long gives us a heavy heart and dulls our outlook on life. With this grim view, everything feels like it requires extra pushing and forcing. This looks cool in movies, but this stress is terrible in real life.
We all know the effects of being stressed for too long. It can literally make us sick. So, in order to stop stressing, we have to stop resisting.
