Why Drawing a Conclusion From the Start Is the Worst Move You Can Make

It has something to do with anxiety and expectations.

--

Starting from a conclusion isn’t a great path to walk. It pulls you out of the peace of the present moment and drops you into a story of the future. This attempt to live in the future is stressful. Do this enough times and it becomes a habit called anxiety.

Anxious much?

A conclusion in advance is really just a prediction. Anxiety is the emotional reaction to that prediction, as if it were true and happening right now. I get it though. We think the worst about future events in order to protect ourselves just in case that prediction comes true. However, the cost of this is high.

By giving ourselves over to anxious thoughts, we lose our inner peace to chaos. We lose the reality of the present moment to future fantasies. And we lose our grounded awareness to the reactionary state of fear.

As you can see, there is far more to lose than gain by starting from a conclusion.

And for my next trick, I’m going to draw this conclusion out of thin air!
